Having a proper skincare routine is the foundation of having clear and healthy skin. It doesn't mean we have to follow a 10 steps skincare routine or we have to use expensive products. Choosing what works for us and sticking to them is the key to have good skin. Different individuals have different skin types and concerns and they should select their products according to that. Our skin tends to change according to the weather also. So the products that we generally use in the summer months might not work during colder winter months.
In this post, I will be sharing what type of products we should pick up for the cold winter months. I will share the right order to apply the products and their benefits. If you don't want your skin to feel exactly like the cold weather dry and dull, please keep on reading.
NOTE:- PLEASE DO A PATCH TEST BEFORE APPLYING ANYTHING ON THE SKIN TO SEE IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO ANY OF THE INGREDIENTS.
- REMOVING MAKEUP: Removing our makeup is the most important thing in our entire skincare routine. There are so many different types of makeup remover available in the market. One can either go for micellar water or oil-based makeup remover or makeup removing balm etc. However, I won't recommend using makeup removing wipes as they are harsh on our skin and do not remove all the makeup properly. These wipes are incredibly bad for our environment that is why we should throw them away from our life.
- CLEANSING: Once we take off all of our makeup, the next step is to cleanse our face with a cleanser or face wash. During winters we should look for face washes that are hydrating and moisturizing. Even extremely oily skin type might feel dry and stretchy. A cream-based cleanser is a good option for winters. While selecting a face wash, we should look for ingredients like milk, oats, honey, etc that deliver nourishment to the skin.
- FACE MASK: Ideally, we should apply a face mask once or twice a week to maintain the overall health of our skin. Again, use products that add moisture to the skin. Ingredients like aloe vera, papaya, seaweed, cocoa face mask are effective for colder months. These are wonderful for our skin as they nurture the skin and enhance radiance at the same time. Try to avoid using clay-based face masks as they further dry out our skin.
- TONER: Toner is used for skin tightening and it also shrinks our pores. Rosewater is the first thing that comes to our mind as a toner. It is suitable for all skin types and very gentle on our skin. Cucumber, Glycerin are some of the moisturising ingredients that we can opt for. We should avoid alcohol-based toner as they are brutal and drying on our skin.
- SERUM: Serum is a lightweight formula with potent ingredients that target specific skin concerns. They are known for their quick absorbent power that penetrates deeper into the skin cells. These days Hyaluronic acid serum is popular as they hydrate the skin by holding 1000 times more than its weight. It makes our skin plump and soft. Always remember to lock in the serum by applying a cream.
- MOISTURIZER: As the name suggests, the job of a moisturizer is to retain the moisture content of our skin. During winters months try using ingredients like shea butter, aloe vera, avocado-based moisturizer for intense nourishment.
- SUNBLOCK (DAY TIME): Sunblock is an irreplaceable product that we should use throughout the year. In winters go for cream-based sunblock to maintain the natural glow of our skin.
- FACIAL OIL (NIGHT TIME): Skincare gurus have been raving about facial oil for quite a long time. face oils ate generally plant-based that contain fatty acids that nourish our skin. They are emollients that soften the outer surface of the skin and lessen water loss from the skin that is a must for radiant skin. It seals in the moisture so that the water molecules don't escape into the air. For every skin type, we have a specific oil, even oily and acne-prone skin type can use a face oil. We can apply face oil throughout the year but in winters it helps our skin with the extra boosts of hydration that it needs the most.
